International Students

Instructions for International Students

To be considered for admission to the Chicago State University School of Pharmacy (CSU-SOP), a prospective student must:

Complete, or be in the process of completing, a minimum of 54 semester hours of non-remedial, prerequisite coursework from a regionally accredited US college or university. It is preferred that all pre-pharmacy coursework requirements be completed in the spring semester prior to matriculation. The student must earn a grade of C or better in each prerequisite course.  (A grade of C- or less will not be accepted)

Achieve a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50 (on a 4.00 scale), a minimum pre-requisite GPA of 2.50 (on a 4.00 scale) in the required pre-pharmacy course curriculum, a minimum pre-requisite science and math GPA of 2.50 (on a 4.00 scale) in the required science and math pre-pharmacy course curriculum;

  • Grades from all attempts of repeated coursework will be included when calculating the cumulative, pre-requisite and pre-requisite science and math coursework grade point average. It is preferred that science and math prerequisite coursework be completed within the last 5 years. Prerequisite coursework older than 10 years will be considered on a case by case basis. Only pre-requisite courses required by CSU-SOP will be included in pre-requisite GPA calculations.
  • One letter must be from a science professor that has taught the student or a pre-health advisor.
  • It is preferred the second letter be from a pharmacist. However, any one of the following recommendations is also acceptable: science professor, another licensed health care professional, employer/supervisor or mentor.

 

Outside USA Coursework

Students who completed coursework at a college or university outside of the United States or Canada must submit an official, detailed course-by-course evaluation of this work.  You must obtain an evaluation from one of the following services:

Non-native English speakers

Must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).

  • Internet-based TOEFL (TOEFL iBT) with a minimum composite score of 80, and a minimum score of 20 in each section of the test (reading, listening, writing and speaking) is required. Submit results to PharmCAS, using code 8246.

    International applicants who meet one of the criteria below may waive the English language proficiency requirement:

  • Applicant has earned their degree from a college or university in the United States or a country where English is a primary and foundational language, as well as the language of instruction for that degree.
  • Applicant has completed a minimum of 24 semester hours of 36 quarter hours of earned credit from an accredited U.S. college or university.

    The list of accepted countries includes:
    Australia, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda,  British Virgin Islands, Canada (except Quebec), England, Ghana, Ireland,  Jamaica, Kenya, New Zealand, Nigeria, Scotland, South Africa, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, Uganda, US territories (US  Virgin Islands, Guam, Micronesia), and Wales.
