Masters of Public Health (MPH)

Chicago State University's MPH program is a practice-centered curriculum designed to prepare students for the health problems of the 21st century. It focuses on the core functions of public health including health status assessments, environmental health quality assurance, behavior change strategies, health disparities, as well as health policy development and research. CSU’s MPH program has a value-added component that focuses on minority health and health equity. The MPH curriculum also emphasizes social and scientific strategies for understanding the causality, consequences, prevention, and control of diseases and untimely deaths.

Students in the MPH program will conduct research that will increase public awareness of these health problems.

MPH Program Learning Objectives

Following the completion of the Master of Science (MPH) degree in Public Health, the graduates will:

Utilize acceptable evidence-based intervention strategies for preventive health practices.
Evaluate the health effects of exposure to hazardous and toxic substances.
Determine community health indicators and evaluate factors in the home and workplace that may cause disease, dysfunction, human suffering, and premature death.
Assess the relative effectiveness of different public health interventions.
Design and evaluate health promotion and disease prevention.
Apply instructional and research skills in the prevention of disease and the promotion of health and wellness.
