The information provided outlines mailing addresses, package processing timelines, pickup procedures, prohibited items, and other important policies related to receiving mail while living on campus.

Students are encouraged to carefully track shipments and ensure that all mail is properly addressed.

Housing and Residence Life staff are available to assist with questions and help resolve mail and package issues whenever possible. Students, parents, and guardians with specific questions regarding mail, package delivery, package tracking, missing packages, or mail-related concerns should contact housing@csu.edu

Mail Procedure for the Residence Hall

To ensure efficient mail processing, all incoming mail must include the contracted student's first name, last name, Residence Hall street address, room number, and room letter. Housing and Residence Life will not process mail for individuals who do not live on campus. Students living in The Flats or Buckingham Place must send their mail to their residential placement. Failure to properly address mail may result in delays or the item being returned to the sender.

All mail and packages are received and processed through Central Receiving before being delivered to Housing and Residence Life.

Students, parents, and guardians should not contact Central Receiving directly regarding mail or package inquiries.

If there is a question about a package, missing mail, or delivery status, please contact housing@csu.edu and Housing and Residence Life staff will assist in locating the item.

  • Mail and packages are processed daily. Processing times may vary depending on carrier delivery schedules, package volume, and operational needs.
  • Students will receive notification at their Chicago State University email address once a package or mail item has been processed and is ready for pickup. A third-party carrier's delivery notification does not mean the package is immediately available for pickup.
  • When classes are in session, packages not retrieved within 30 days may be returned to the sender after multiple notification attempts have been made.
  • During break periods or other interim housing periods, priority mail processing will be provided for approved residents remaining on campus. Students not residing on campus during these periods will still receive notification through their university email regarding mail retrieval procedures.
  • Mail and packages will not be processed or distributed during official University holidays, closures, emergency closures, or other periods when University operations are suspended. Students should expect delays in receiving mail and packages during these times. Processing and distribution will resume once the University reopens.

  • Tampering with mail that does not belong to you is a federal offense. Violators may be subject to prosecution by the U.S. Postal Service and disciplinary action under the Student Code of Conduct.
  • Chicago State University and Housing and Residence Life are not responsible for lost, stolen, delayed, misdirected, or damaged mail and packages.
  • Sending or receiving cash through the mail is strongly discouraged. The University is not responsible for any lost funds.
  • Students should carefully consider the timing and method of delivery for any important or time-sensitive items. Housing and Residence Life strongly discourages sending medications, legal documents, cash, or other critical items through Residence Hall mail services due to potential shipping and processing delays.

  • Students may not receive prohibited items as outlined in the Resident Student Handbook. Receiving prohibited items through the mail may result in disciplinary action under the Student Code of Conduct.
  • Perishable items, meal delivery kits, refrigerated goods, and any items requiring temperature-controlled storage are prohibited. Housing and Residence Life does not have the capacity to refrigerate or freeze mail deliveries.
  • Prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, and other medical supplies should not be mailed to the Residence Hall whenever possible. Students requiring medication should work directly with their healthcare provider or pharmacy to arrange appropriate delivery options. Housing and Residence Life cannot guarantee expedited processing of mailed medications and is not responsible for delays caused by shipping carriers, University holidays, closures, or mail processing timelines.
  • Housing and Residence Life does not accept mail or packages for students prior to their official move-in date. Items delivered before a student's authorized move-in date may be returned to the sender.
  • Students are encouraged to schedule deliveries after they have officially moved into their Residence Hall assignment and are able to receive packages.
  • Housing and Residence Life does not forward mail after a student has checked out of campus housing. Students are responsible for updating their address information with senders and the United States Postal Service before moving out.

Mail Procedure for The Flats and Buckingham Place

Mail and package delivery for residents living in The Flats and Buckingham Place is managed by the respective property management teams and follows procedures that differ from those used by Housing and Residence Life for students living in the Residence Hall.

All mail and packages must still be addressed correctly with the student's full name and apartment address to ensure successful delivery. Improperly addressed mail may be delayed or returned to the sender.

Residents of The Flats and Buckingham Place should refer to the procedures and instructions provided by their property management office regarding package notifications, pickup locations, delivery acceptance, and mail distribution timelines. These procedures may differ from those used for mail delivered to students living in the Residence Hall.

Students, parents, and guardians with questions regarding mail or package delivery should contact housing@csu.edu for assistance.
