Grants & Awards

The CTRE invites faculty to apply for a range of grants each year. These grants are competitive and are designed to support unique projects and faculty development opportunities that advance the mission of the university. There will be two rounds of grant offerings each year. The amount to be awarded will depend on the number of applications received. Grants for travel are not to exceed $1,000.

Grants are available to full time tenure eligible and non-tenure eligible faculty and are reviewed by the CTRE Faculty Advisory Board based on carefully set criteria provided in the application materials. CTRE Grant Descriptions

The CTRE grants support special projects around research, teaching, student engagement, and faculty development. Review the descriptions and criteria below to find out more. 

The Seed Grant provides financial support for new and innovative research projects and other projects that result in a proposal for external funding. New and early-career faculty are especially encouraged to apply, however all faculty including those in advanced stages will be considered.

The purpose of the Faculty Travel Grant is to provide financial assistance for faculty to participate in development activities that directly enhance the individual's research and/or teaching. These funds may only be used for travel to present at conferences. Tenure-track and all ranks of non- tenure-track faculty are eligible to apply for these funds with the approval of the respective department head. For applications from tenure-track and clinical faculty and lecturers, priority will be given to projects that could lead to promotion to associate or full professor/clinical professor etc. Reference should be made in the application to the documented departmental promotion standards. Award amounts are up to $1,000 for up to 2 faculty members per academic department.

All grant applications must be submitted online by the deadlines listed. If selected, you may be asked to submit supporting documentation. External Grants

Description: The US Department of State, through the Fulbright Specialist Program, awards grants to qualified US faculty and professionals to engage in short-term, collaborative projects that strengthen and support the developmental needs of host academic institutions in more than 150 countries. Typical activities include seminars or workshops, consulting on faculty or workforce development, developing academic or training curricula and materials, lecturing at the graduate or undergraduate level, and conducting needs assessments or evaluations for a program or institution.

Eligible applicants are US scholars and professionals in the following disciplines: agriculture, American studies, anthropology, archaeology, biology education, business administration, chemistry education, communications and journalism, computer science and information technology, economics, education, engineering education, environmental science, law, library science, mathematics education, peace and conflict resolution studies, physics education, political science, public administration, public and global health, social work, sociology, and urban planning. Project periods range from two to six weeks. Applications must be submitted online.

Description: The Kurt Weill Foundation for Music supports performances of musical works by Kurt Weill and Marc Blitzstein; scholarly research pertaining to Weill, Lotte Lenya, and Blitzstein; and relevant educational initiatives. Applications are accepted for funding to support media, college and university performances, dissertation fellowships, educational outreach, professional performances, publication assistance, and research and travel. Eligible education outreach activities should focus on Weill, Lenya, or Blitzstein, and may include workshops, symposia, and secondary-level and college-level educational initiatives.

Eligible applicants are colleges, universities, and nonprofit organizations. Applications must be submitted online.

Description: The National Science Foundation’s (NSF) Secure and Trustworthy Cyberspace (SaTC) Program awards annual grants to protect and preserve the growing social and economic benefits of cyber systems while ensuring security and privacy. The SaTC program takes an interdisciplinary, comprehensive, and holistic approach to cybersecurity research, development, and education, and encourages the transition of promising research ideas into practice. The SaTC program welcomes proposals that address cybersecurity and privacy, and draw on expertise in one or more of these areas: computing, communication and information sciences; engineering; education; mathematics; statistics; and social, behavioral, and economic sciences. Proposals that advance the field of cybersecurity and privacy within a single discipline or interdisciplinary efforts that span multiple disciplines are both welcome.

Eligible applicants are universities and two- and four-year colleges (including community colleges) accredited in and having a campus located in the United States acting on behalf of their faculty members. Also eligible are nonprofit, nonacademic US organizations, such as independent museums, observatories, research labs, and professional societies associated with educational or research activities. Applications must be submitted online.

Award(s): Small project grants up to $600,000 are awarded. Medium project awards range from $600,001 to $1.2 million.
