Diverse Scholars in Education Program

For Future Teachers

The Diverse Scholar in Education program is a unique program specifically designed for students who have an interest on becoming Pre-K to 12th grade teachers and a desire to commit to leading change efforts to improve educational outcomes for students in urban settings.

The Diverse Scholar in Education Program seeks to support participants through the following: 

  • Four- year tuition assistance for admitted students pursuing teaching careers
  • Academic and social emotional support systems to help assure their success
  • Assigned Mentorship
  • A cohort system for social and cultural support
  • Monthly activities with a focus on the educational profession
  • Participation in innovative research experiences
  • Job placement support

 

Student MentoringWho can apply?

All applicants will be considered with a preference given to students entering their freshman year at Chicago State University. To apply to the Diverse Scholars in Education program, a student must enroll in one of the pre-service teaching programs. (Early childhood, Elementary Education, Secondary Education; specific disciplines, Bilingual Education, or Special Education.)

 

Divers Scholar 

Criteria for applicants includes:

  • Offer of admission from CSU Admissions
  • One essay (Why I want to teach)
  • One interview
  • One letter of recommendation (from a teacher, guidance counselor, or principal at the high school form which the diploma is earned)
  • Free Application for Federal Student Aid on File at CSU
  • High School Diploma
  • High School GPA of 2.5 or better
